Parts of my Scott Drayco series are based on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. On a trip not too long ago, my husband and I visited the Assateague Lighthouse and snapped some pictures of the marches toward Chincoteague. It is such a good example of what I love about the landscapes in that area, the fingers of ocean pushed into the coastlines, creating soft mud banks for minks and muskrats and tall grasses for wintering nests of mallards and blue-winged teal. It's desolate and beautiful at the same time.
